THIEVES who targeted two Kendal town centre shops over an 11-day period are being hunted by police.

Detectives believe the two incidents are linked and are seeking information from the public to help track down the smash and grab raiders.

The first incident took place at around 5.15am on January 18 when two men stole watches displayed in the window of Wave Jewellers on Finkle Street.

On January 27 at around 4.20am, the shop window of Mr Gees on Stramongate was smashed, although nothing was stolen. A man was seen on CCTV smashing the window and then running through a ginnel onto New Road, before heading towards the bottom on Lowther Street and Kent Street.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw a man or men acting suspiciously in the area on or around those times and dates.

Police also ask anyone to get in touch if they have information about the sale of the following watches:
* Alpina Avalanche extreme model AL525X5AE6 42MM
* Rue Du Rhone 88 Rive Watch “88”
* Gucci Gold Ladies watch Model GUCCI1500L

“These offenders clearly have little regard for anyone’s property or businesses and need to be brought to justice," said Insp Paul Latham.

“We are asking for people to be vigilant and report suspicious individuals who are lurking in the town centre in the early hours of the morning."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 and ask to speak to DC Mark Kerley or PC Jason Hesmondhalgh.
