SOME of the UK's top backgammon players have signed up to compete in the Lake District's annual championship.
The competition, to be held at Windermere's Cedar Manor Hotel on April 8, is being staged for the fifth time, with the backing of the UK Backgammon Federation and the British Isles Backgammon Association.
One of the world’s oldest board games, combining skill and chance, backgammon is played in cafés across the Mediterranean region and in the some exclusive London clubs, with world championships staged in exotic locations.
