A KENDAL man has reached the summits of all 214 Wainwright Fells in under four months.

Starting at Loughrigg in November and finishing with Coniston Old Man 116 days later, 23-year-old gardener Josh Wade made his way up each of the peaks scattered across the length and breadth of the Lake District national park.

He decided he was ready to take on the Wainwrights after successfully scaling the Matterhorn, standing at nearly 4.5km tall in the Alps between Italy and Switzerland.

"When I was younger my dad used to take me up the fells a lot and then last year I was training and running four or five times a week to climb the Matterhorn," he said.

"I completed that and I had always wanted to do all the Wainwrights for a long time.

"I got everything planned and got my routes sorted and then when November came I went out after work and started with Loughrigg.

"Since then I've been out every weekend and some nights and finished on Sunday February 25."

Despite some short nights and cold weather, Mr Wade said he had enjoyed the experience and would be keen to try and complete them in a shorter space of time.

"I ran them all in all sorts of conditions," he said. "It was brilliant and I enjoyed it all, even though some days I was running in snow that was knee deep.

"All of the fells were enjoyable and I particularly liked some of the quieter ones around Loweswater, but I thought they were all really nice."

To anyone thinking of taking on the Wainwright fells against the clock, Mr Wade said: "Plan properly, because it did take a lot of planning.

"You also need to be motivated and be positive about it, and just enjoy it."
