A MAN has been arrested by police after he barricaded himself and a woman inside a Barrow hotel room.

Shortly after 1.20pm today (March 9) officers forced entry to a room at the Hotel Imperial on Cornwallis Street, following concerns for the welfare of both persons.

The male, aged 21, from Barrow has been arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment.

He will require hospital treatment for self-inflicted injuries.

The woman, aged 22, from Barrow who was with him in the hotel room is uninjured.

Police attended the hotel this morning following enquires into an earlier assault.

Numerous police resources were used, including trained negotiators, in an attempt to safely resolve the situation.

Armed officers were deployed as a precaution. There was no threat to the wider public during this incident.
