FAMILIES and businesses are invited to take part in the annual Super Sands Walk weekend this summer to raise funds for local hospitals.

On the Cross Bay Walk, Cedric Robinson MBE, Queen’s official guide, will be leading around 300 walkers across eight miles of sands to raise money for Bay Hospitals Charity.

A shorter walk, the Piel Island Walk, is led by expert guide John Murphy who will tell walkers about the history of the area.

Bay Hospitals Charity is a registered charity, raising money to improve patient care and hospital experience at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust hospitals.

Donations to Bay Hospitals Charity fund the latest equipment and help make local hospitals more comfortable.

“The Cross Bay and Piel Island walks are a fabulous way to raise money for your local hospitals, which we all love. As the NHS turns 70 on July 5, this is a great way to celebrate, keep fit and give a little back," Paula Richardson, Head of Charities and Fundraising, Bay Hospitals Charity, said.

“I would like to thank both our expert guides Cedric and John in advance. They have been supporting our walks for many years between them and you will be in very capable hands.”

The eight-mile Cross Bay Walk is held on Saturday July 7, starting at 12pm (registration opens at 11am) from Arnside and ends at Kents Bank.

The Piel Island Walk is held on Sunday July 8.

The route starts at Snab Point, Walney, at 11am (registration opens at 10.30am) and ends at the same location.
