An extremely rare Chinese ‘motorbike’ has taken pride of place at the Lakeland Motor Museum.

The quirky three-wheeled 2008 Xingyue XY 150 ZK Vogue was acquired by Museum Director Bill Bewley at auction and has now gone on display at the popular attraction. It is one of only 28 sold in Britain that year and there are now just two still on the roads.

Built in China for the export market, the Xingyue’s styling is inspired by the Honda’s 1981 Gyro model and is designed not only to be safer than a standard three-wheeler, but also to protect the rider from the ravages of the weather. It has a top speed of 65KPH.

Chris Williams, Deputy Manager at the Lakeland Motor Museum, said: “This is an intriguing vehicle, which is officially classified as a motorbike but is probably best described as a scooter.

“Interestingly, the Xingyue was most popular in parts of the USA and Russia, but was never actually sold in China! It is incredibly rare and adds another unusual dimension to our ever-expanding collection of motorcycles here at the Museum.”
