KIRKBY Lonsdale Golf Club members have raised close to £2,000 for The Westmorland Gazette's Hospice Angels campaign.

The campaign launched in September 2016, looking to raise £30,000 in order to fund the work of a St John's Hospice at Home nurse for one year.

Thanks to the generosity of readers, the campaign topped its target by Christmas of the same year.

However, almost two years later the campaign is still having an impact with the 2017/2018 season's men's captain Paz Parry and the lady's captain Anne Woof choosing it as their local charity.

The cheque for £1,847 was handed over by Anne Woof to head of finance and resources at St John’s Hospice Shirley Mørch.

Shirley's husband, Chris, was cared for by the Hospice at Home nurses in the last few weeks of his life and Shirley generously shared her story with the Gazette as part of the fundraising effort.
