A CYCLING fanatic from Kirkby Lonsdale will be tackling more than 500 miles through the Scottish Highlands in aid of a cancer charity.
Stu Taylor, 41, will set out on the Highland Trail 550 on Saturday (May 26), with ambitions of completing the 550 miles in 4-6 days.
"There's a lot that can go wrong," he said. "You're out in the middle of nowhere. Weather will be a really big factor for a lot of it."
The ride, which is self-supported, includes a total of 16,002m of ascent and the highest point reached is 770m.
Stu is hoping to raise £2,000 for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre in order to help support a friend of his who has the illness.
The owner of The Royal Barn and Kirkby Lonsdale Brewery, Stu has also created a limited edition beer that the proceeds of are going towards his fundraising efforts.
And despite the gruelling distances involved, Stu does not feel apprehensive.
"I'm pretty relaxed about it at the moment," he said. "Part of the draw is to totally test yourself and I do think I'm quite strong mentally.
"I try not to overthink anything and just go in and ride it out."
