STAVELEY adventurer Leo Houlding has helped a television presenter train to take on one of the most notorious mountain climbs in the world.

Steve Backshall Vs The Monster Mountain aired on CBBC, with Steve Backshall setting himself the challenge of climbing the north face of the Eiger in Switzerland.

Leo Houlding trained with Steve on the Gogarth Cliffs in North Wales while Steve's wife, double Olympic rowing champion Helen Glover, puts him through his paces as he strives to reach peak fitness in the months leading up to the challenge.

After months of gruelling physical and mental training in the UK and Swiss Alps, Steve and his team were ready to climb the mountain dubbed ‘The Ogre’.

However with blizzards and biting cold sweeping in with the Beast from the East, heart-breaking decisions had to be made in a race against time to save the expedition.

To see how the expedition concluded, you can watch it on BBC iPlayer.
