A FAMILY-RUN hotel in Grasmere has unveiled a bold new look – and a new name – following a major investment.

The rebranded ‘Tweedies Bar and Lodge’ brings together the former Dale Lodge Hotel with Grasmere’s Tweedies bar to create a fresh new identity.

Alongside six new Tweed bedroom suites, the newly-styled Tweedies Bar and Lodge includes updated furniture and décor in the main public areas, with Tweed-themed features ranging from lampshades to bedspreads to give the interiors a unique look.

To capture the essence of the property’s location in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, owners Gillian and Brian Roberts have worked with a range of local suppliers.

They include Coniston-based Loungy Upholstery, and Charlotte Chaplin, who develops Herdwick tweeds from her farm in Finsthwaite.

The latest work also follows the complete refurbishment of the kitchen in 2015, as well as the construction of the luxury Mews Suites.

The refurbishment of Tweedies Bar and Lodge ties in with the upcoming 15th anniversary of the Roberts family taking ownership.

Gillian and Brian Roberts run the business with their two sons, James and Alex, and are also the driving force behind the annual Grasmere Guzzler Festival.

Head chef, James Goodall is continuing to reinvent the food and drink offering. New additions to the menu include ‘family-style’ Sunday roast dinners, which can be carved and shared at the table.

Gillian Roberts said: “We’re all very excited to unveil the latest stage in the growth of Tweedies Bar & Lodge. This is a true family business and we are immensely proud of what we have already achieved. At the same time, it is so important to stay ahead of the game and keep innovating in a competitive hospitality industry.

“These latest developments are all about us continuing to grow and thrive, building both on the Tweedies name and the reputation that the hotel has built up over almost 15 years. We believe this refurbishment will appeal to 21st century visitors who appreciate quality, authentic surroundings but also want to relax and make themselves at home.”
