MORE than 200 people gathered in a big green barn in Gatebeck for a night of music and dancing to help raise more than £6,500 for St John’s Hospice.

The Band in the Barn event was returning for a second year after a successful debut in 2017.

The big green barn, on a farm in Gatebeck, owned and used with permission by Ian and Helen Pickthall, was transformed into a party music venue for the evening with hay bales, disco lights and bunting.

Live music was provided by local band Sold to the Sky, hot food by Alison Thompson, a charity raffle and match funding provided by local HSBC employees, five of whom volunteered to help run the bar for the evening.

Community fundraiser at St John’s, Sara Brown, organised the event with the generous help from the Pickthalls.

She said: “A lot of hard work goes in to producing this event for the hospice and the result is very much a team effort with special thanks to Helen and Ian.

"Band in the Barn was another amazing evening which has raised £11,000 for St John’s in the last two years, a fantastic amount of money that allows us to continue caring for people living in our local communities. Thank you to everyone who helped make it a night to remember."
