ULVERSTON'S Ford Park is gearing up for yet another packed programme of summer fun including theatre and re-enactment.

Kicking off the park’s summer season with its latest touring production of Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, the Festival Players will be performing in the park on July 27 at 7.30pm.

Taking this play across the UK and into Europe over the summer, the Gloucestershire-based group are looking forward to the open-air performance in Ulverston.

Presented in full costume, an all-male cast brings an opportunity to see one of Shakespeare’s most intriguing plays in a crystal-clear, accessible and fast-paced two hour production.

Festival Players artistic director, Michael Dyer, said: “Our shows are an amalgam of energy, entertainment and colour and we aim to make them clear and transparent, as well as keeping them short for the comfort of our patrons. We set out to take audiences of all ages on a journey and make them feel very much part of the production.”

The performance starts at 7.30pm, with the park open for picnics beforehand, and visitors are asked to bring their own seating, rugs or blankets. Hot and cold drinks and refreshments will be available.

Tickets are now on sale at the Coach House Café – simply pop in to purchase tickets or call 01229 581666.

Only a few days later, experience the life and times of the English Civil War period as the oldest re-enactment society in the world, the Sealed Knot, head to Ford Park.

Held on August 4 and 5 from 11am-4pm, view camp life in the English Civil War - including C17th skills, crafts and fine dining demonstration, pike displays, musket displays, artillery displays and military skirmishes.

There will also be birds of prey, donkey rides, family activities and a local food BBQ on the field – ensuring a great day for all the family.

Suzanne Pender, chair of Ford Park Community Group Trustees, said: “We are proud to welcome the Sealed Knot to Ford Park this summer, supported by Ulverston Business Improvement District (BID).

“We are very excited about this event and hope it will bring new visitors to Ulverston, supporting the local tourist economy, as well as providing something new and different for the community. It would be wonderful to see as many people as possible joining us for what is sure to be a fantastic event.”
