THE popularity and variety of traditional Lakeland sports was on display in Ambleside on Thursday (26).

Hundreds turned out to the community-minded Ambleside Sports near Rydal, to watch runners, cyclists, hound trailers and wrestlers all compete at the historic sports day.
Ninety-five runners took part in this year’s Rydal Round, the gruelling nine-mile fell race that opens the event and sees runners complete the Fairfield Horseshoe.
