SITE investigation work is underway across South Lakeland in the next stage of a plan to deliver new flood relief schemes.
The Environment Agency and its partners have been working on a shortlist of schemes to increase the resilience in the around Cumbria in the wake of the 2015 floods and these were now being 'refined'.
The agency said it needed to better understand the ground conditions to finalise design proposals for the schemes.
Site investigation works and further surveys will be undertaken at the various locations where potential flood risk management schemes have been identified, including Kendal, Burneside, Staveley, Ings, Ambleside and Grasmere.
The work will be carried out from this month until December and landowners will be contacted in advance about the impact of the works.
Stewart Mounsey, the Environment Agency's flood risk manager for Cumbria, said: βItβs great to see this phase of work beginning to manage the future flood risk for local communities.
"We hope that residents will bear with us while work is undertaken. It is important these investigations take place so that we can fully understand the local conditions and keep the programme moving.β
