DREAMCATCHER: Alex Hossack and Catherine Aubrey interpret your dreams

Raj’s Dream:

The dream begins with me in the bathroom. There is a voice coming from a radio speaker telling me in detail how to clean the bathroom and how the cleanser she suggested using would clean off any dirt. I was very impressed with her judgement.

The image is of a hand holding a scrubbing brush cleaning the toilet bowl. There is little else to report but the dream reoccurred later again during the night.

Dream Analysis:

This dream takes place in a bathroom. The bathroom is symbolic of privacy, a private space which in this case is being intruded by his ‘voice’ sending a ‘message’. If the dreamer could analyse how it makes him feel: enlightened, disgusted, humiliated or something else, the answer may connect to his attempt to self analyse.

The image of an unclean bathroom suggests that the dreamer is telling himself that he has unresolved issues represented by the apparent ‘blemishes’ in an otherwise stain-free life and he is telling himself they need addressing.

He continues to listen to the instructions from his ‘inner voice’. However, psychologically he is stuck in his own world (represented by the dream being restricted to the bathroom) with his ‘inner voice’ prompting him to address something personal and potentially unpleasant. However, it is necessary to address. In this dream cleaning is symbolic of intimate self reflection.

The image of ‘cleaning up’ is a central issue here and possibly a representation of the dreamer's need to adjust his negative attitude. The fact that the dream reoccurred later again in the night suggests that the initial playing of the dream did not register well in his consciousness but was important and needed to be repeated.

Interestingly, we have found it is not always possible to interpret your own dream, probably because it often represents the sublimation of feelings or thoughts that we are trying to avoid in our waking lives. However, with a little assistance from the dream interpreter, the symbols and themes can start to make sense and help us to move forward.

We only have space to interpret one dream a week which will be selected from those received. Please refer to the guidance provided to describe your dream as this will enable us to provide a full interpretation.

Guidance for the Dreamer

• Record your dream in writing as soon as you wake up with as much detail as possible.

• First of all ask yourself who is in the dream.

• Where are you, what is happening to you and what is happening around you?

• Record how you are feeling about what you and/or others are doing.

• Are there particular symbols or objects in the dream that are unusual?

• Are there any sounds and is the dream in colour or black and white?

• Are you watching yourself in the dream or are you experiencing it first-hand ie: through your own eyes.
