CHILDREN at Crosby Ravensworth CE Primary School have been greeted back to school with the thrill of new playground equipment, thanks to players of the National Lottery.
A climbing frame and outdoor musical equipment, including a custom-made oak xylophone, chime bars and drums, have been set into a hard-wearing mulched surface.
Funding came courtesy of a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund and the DfE’s ‘Little Extras’ pot.
Head teacher Duncan Priestley said: “It’s wonderful to see the smiles on their faces. The young and the old play together so nicely in our small school and they deserve the best we can offer.
“The big xylophone is proving especially popular.”
There is academic success to celebrate too: every child in Year 6 achieved the national standard or better for Reading, Writing, Maths and Grammar following their SATS tests.
The school has just begun working towards an Artsmark award and is looking to develop budding artists in the years ahead.
