CONISTON Water reverberated with the sounds of engines as kings and queens of speed pitted their skills against each other during the Lake District's annual power boating Records Week.

Despite gusty winds and a choppy surface to the lake, around 30 records tumbled thanks to the determined work of the boaters who descended on Coniston from across the country for the annual speed fest.

Husband and wife team Helen and Chris Loney, from Kendal, spent much of the week vying with each other by both establishing and breaking records in their categories.

At the time of going to press, Mrs Loney clocked 100.77 mph in the Clubman catamaran unlimited class and Mr Loney hit 100.70mph in the Formula 3000 Class.
