Lakeland Walker, a magazine dedicated to exploring the Lake District fells on foot, is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a special edition highlighting the National Park’s finest walks.

In the celebratory issue, which goes on sale March 2, Lakeland Walker also reveals the time Westmorland & Lonsdale MP Tim Farron was caught out after a hike, discovers the healing powers of Morecambe Bay, and offers readers the opportunity to win a special prize bundle of outdoor gear.

The magazine’s expert team of writers and photographers, – including filmmaker Terry Abraham, mountaineer Bill Birkett, journalist Vivienne Crow, author Ronald Turnbull and artist Mark Richards, have also been invited to reveal what they believe to be Lakeland’s greatest walks.

Editor John Manning said: “We’re celebrating the anniversary at a time when few of our readers can access their beloved fells due to the coronavirus restrictions.

“I’ve commissioned some wonderful narrative accounts, exploring some of the wildest and most remote corners of Britain’s most beautiful National Park to enable readers to experience the mountains vicariously, through the words of our experienced contributors.

“This time, we’ve given our writers free rein to express themselves with descriptive prose, to evoke the spirit of the fells and inspire readers, until they can return to the Lake District.

“Lakeland Walker’s endurance is testament to the area’s exceptional beauty, and the deep love people have for the Lake District fells.

“This is a very special place.”

Managing director David Proud said: “Lakeland Walker has gone from strength to strength since Dalesman Publishing acquired the title in 2013.

“We’re very grateful to its dedicated readers, as well as to our advertisers and contributors, for their support while the fells have been inaccessible through the Covid-19 lockdowns.”

To mark the anniversary, Lakeland Walker is offering a special rate of £19.96 for a one-year, six-issue subscription – the price reflects the year in which the magazine was first published.
