A FORMER Windermere pupil is following in her grandfather’s footsteps as she has been accepted onto a degree apprenticeship in project management at BAE in Barrow.

Charlotte Lambert, 19, from Kendal, will be beginning her apprenticeship in September after following her Baccalaureate Career-Related pathway through Windermere School Sixth Form, Lancaster University before finally reaching BAE.

Her work ethic has been praised by her former school.

Windermere School wrote on social media: "Charlotte Lambert left us last year having followed the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Programme pathway through Sixth Form and took up a place at Lancaster University, however she was keen to get onto an apprenticeship.

“She has achieved this with BAE and starts a degree apprenticeship in project management at BAE Barrow in September.

“Huge congratulations to Charlotte, this is wonderful news and we are so proud of you."

Charlotte, who was born in Lancaster, and moved to Kendal eight years ago, spoke with great anticipation for her future opportunity at BAE.

She said: “It was a long road with a lot of luck.

“I finished university doing a business management course and am starting at BAE this September.

“When I first saw it, it was a degree apprenticeship to work there. It would be split between working and studying.

“When I found out what I could do there I applied for it straight away.

“Working and studying is where I work best, my granddad actually worked for BAE as an apprenticeship, so I thought I’d give it a go.

“When I called to tell him, he was so happy.

“I finished my A-levels in 2020. It was a bit of an early finish because of Covid, as we couldn’t sit our exams so it was based on predictive grades.

“For anyone else trying to do what I’ve done I say stay determined. You never know what can happen so always best to make a plan and just go for it.”
