AN investigation is still ongoing after footage emerged of drivers driving the wrong way on the A66 following a crash last week.
The footage captured by a shocked motorist is now being reviewed by police.
The major road was shut between Kirkby Thore and Appleby on Wednesday, July 7 following a crash involving two cars - leading to long delays.
But to one motorist’s surprise approximately a dozen cars turned around and drove the wrong way up the A66.
A police spokesman said: “There was collision between Ford Fiesta and Peugeot 106.
“It appears there were no serious injuries.
“The driver of Peugeot had minor injuries and taken to hospital as a precaution.
“The two occupants of Peugeot did not require hospital treatment.”
The road was eventually reopened at about 8pm.
The man who captured the video said: “It was crazy.
“Who in there right minds turns round on a live dual carriageway and head towards the oncoming traffic?”
After being sent the video police have pledged to review the footage.
A police spokesman said: “Police will review the footage to consider any potential offences.”
