KENDAL’S boxing hero Taylor Finch took time out of his busy fight preparation to visit members of the Box Ability group at Barrow’s Amateur Boxing Gym.

The young boxer, who will be competing professionally in the Bolton Arena on February 18, visited the Barrow Boxing gym to spend some time with five young people who are living with special needs.

Taylor spoke with each person, did some training, signed autographs, and posed for pictures with them.

The sessions were started by Jeff Moses, of Barrow Amateur Boxing Club, and are held on Tuesdays.

Each person gets their own gloves with their names on them and each session gives those living with special needs a chance to train and enjoy the sport of boxing.

Taylor’s father Alvin Finch said: “They had five people at the session with came with their carers. It was a great get together.

“Some of them will be coming to Taylor’s fight in Bolton which they are really excited about.

“We’ve only got two weeks on Friday to go.

“They all started out a bit shy when they began training but now they’re getting so much out of it every week.

“Just seeing them makes you really feel so lucky to be in this sport.

“Taylor came down to visit them after work, and after he’d been for a run, he was tired but when he got there he changed completely. Watching how he interacted with them was brilliant. We got some nice pictures and videos of the whole thing.

“Taylor is still training hard and we’re heading into the final stages now.

“We have sold about 160 tickets for the fight and we’ve had a great response from the community.

“We had Frydays Chip shop get in touch and Sunset Studios have given him a lot of support.

“Even after the match this month, he will be back in the ring soon after.

“He’s training so hard and I’m so proud of him for everything he’s doing.”
