A PHYSIOTHERAPIST is gearing up to represent Great Britain at a multi discipline event.

Christie Byrne, a Great Britain age group athlete, will head to Romania to compete in the 2022 World Multi-sports Championships this weekend.

Ms Byrne will be representing the Great Britain age group team in the 2022 World Sprint Distance Duathlon Championships on June 12.

The tough multi-sport event comprises a 5km run, 20km cycle and a second 2.5km run.

And the race is part of the wider Transylvania Multisport Festival which sees top athletes from across the world competing.

Ms Byrne is a physiotherapist at The Body Rehab in Staveley and for the Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club.

The Westmorland Gazette:

She took up running and cycling during the first lockdown in 2020 and quickly found her feet, successfully qualifying for her age group in the GB team by 2021.

“Since qualifying I have been training hard alongside my job as a physiotherapist at The Body Rehab in Staveley and for Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club,” said Ms Byrne.

“I’m really excited to get out there, meet up with other members of the team and represent GB to the best of my ability so it’s fantastic that Lake District Estates have been able to facilitate this with their generous sponsorship.”

Lake District Estates, a family-owned organisation that operates holiday parks and attractions throughout Cumbria, has provided vital sponsorship to assist with Ms Byrne’s costs to travel to Romania to compete.

Rachel Bell, head of marketing at Lake District Estates said: “Supporting our local community is a key initiative for Lake District Estates, and its fantastic to be able to support a local Cumbrian athlete to compete on the world-stage.

“We wish Christie the best of luck as she competes this weekend!”
