letters and emails have poured into The Westmorland Gazette in response to a special quest to recognise those in our community who exhibit a heart of gold.

Thankful friends, relatives, neighbours and charity and support group users jumped at the chance to highlight the selfless work done by individuals throughout the area for Hearts of Gold, run by the Gazette in conjunction with The 1657 Chocolate House in Kendal.

The nominations for the feature, which will run throughout 2008, included heart-warming tales of those who go the extra mile for other people without expecting thanks or praise.

This month's winner is Elaine Wilson, of Burneside, who has received a special thank you of a box of chocolates from the 1657 Chocolate House and a limited edition Lilliput Lane model of the historic building, for the way she has helped her neighbours in their times of need.
