A CARNFORTH Restaurant has enjoyed its first year of business and is excited to expand on its success in the future.

Restaurant Carter, located on Kirkby Lonsdale Road at Arkholme, opened in 2021 and despite early difficulties caused by lockdown the business has emerged as a popular destination for diners in the area.

The restaurant has amassed a collection of five-star online reviews thanks to its high-quality food and service.

Vickie Arnold, sister to Head Chef Sam Carter, said: “We opened last year at the end of August, start of September.

“We had a bit of a slow start and a soft opening. It was a little bit of the Covid impact.

“But now since we’ve been up and running it’s all been going very well.

“It is about time we broadened our horizon.

“My brother Sam is the head Chef, and he’s used to working in this area. He’s been around for a long time and he’s got a good reputation. He used to work in the Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale and won some rosette awards.

“When he saw the chance to open his own place, he jumped at it. It was put on hold for a little bit due to Covid.

“Now things are up and running, and we were originally opened for a few days a week but we expanded that. We’ve also built a relationship with the air B&B so we want to spread the word.

“There are a lot of local residents in the Valley area who support us, and one of the nice things is we mostly use local suppliers and local growers.

“My brother says, ‘if it’s on your door step, why not use it?’

“We do a lot of stuff by word of mouth and we have our own Facebook and Instagram page which help get the word out there.

“Sam primarily goes for traditional modern British food, some sea food and also goes for a lot of meats, local produce, and sea herbs.

“On Sundays we do a nice roast, and we’re open on Thursdays for our super club menu. We also have a broader taster menu with 5-6 courses available.

“In a years’ time I hope we will be doing much the same but attracting a bigger audience. The Lune does well in summer so we’re looking forward to more tourism.

“The building we are in was an old traditional pub and has been here for hundreds of years.”

The business' evening service is from 6pm on Thursday and Saturday, Sunday from 12pm.
