A LAKE District martial arts instructor has been entered into the Martial Arts hall of fame.

Sensei Richard Smith from The Sport Nunchaku UK National HQ, located on Droomer Driver, is the UK’s first World Nunchaku Champion and a sixth-degree black belt in Ju-Jitsu.

The sensei was entered in the hall of fame thanks to his extensive work in martial arts and reputation as a teacher.

This is the third time he has been inducted into the hall of fame.

The club wrote on social media: “Thank you Bob Sykes and Paul Barnett for a fantastic Night at the U.K. Martial Arts Awards, Burton on Trent.

“It was a great honour to be accepted into Hall of fame award once more.

“Thank you, it's much appreciated.

“Like always the night ran smoothly and very professional in a relaxed environment. It was great to see everyone and looking forward to meeting you all again in Doncaster in May 23."
