A CARER has been praised for literally going the extra mile to ensure a homecare company’s clients received the same high standard of care, despite extreme weather conditions.

Following the recent heavy snowfall and icy conditions, care professionals of Home Instead South Lakes faced problems making their way up a notoriously treacherous hill in Grange to make a care visit.

While many tried, Louise Lowes donned her walking gear and walked 40 minutes to ensure that the client was seen to, cooking her a meal and ensuring that she was staying warm in such difficult weather conditions.

But Louise didn't stop there.

She walked another few miles in the bitter cold to see a client, before making more care visits in the evening that other care professionals were struggling to attend due to the weather conditions.

Thanks to Louise's efforts, clients received valuable care, comfort, and chitchat during the cold snap, which made many older people feel anxious.

Louise Yates, general and registered manager of Home Instead South Lakes, said:

"Louise represents the passion and commitment of all of our care professionals who perform a crucial, skilled role that keeps older people safe.

"I cannot thank Louise enough for the sheer physical effort that she made to reach our clients at such a challenging time.

"The extra work and effort by her walking through the snow to get to clients is admirable.

"The cold snap was a testing time for us, but thanks to the heroic acts of Louise and other care professionals, we made it through the challenges."

Louise Lowes commented: "When the office sent a message out saying carers couldn't get through due to icy and blocked roads, I thought I should help as I was the closest.

"I couldn't have sat at home, knowing that somebody might have had to go without care - especially if they hadn't had anything to eat or drink.

"Sometimes you just need to do these things to get the job done."
