A VILLAGE primary school has received glowing praise following an Ofsted inspection which saw it maintain its Outstanding rating.

Crosthwaite C of E School in South Lakeland was awarded the highest possible rating after a visit by inspectors on January 18.

The school, which has 100 pupils aged between three and 11 on its roll, received high commendation from the Ofsted report about the pupils' overall experience.

It said: "Pupils, including children in the early years, flourish in Crosthwaite C of E School.

"They love coming to school and being with their friends. Pupils are extremely happy and feel safe in school."

The report said that pupils 'benefit enormously' from the school's geographical location, and the 'vast array of outdoor experiences it brings.'

It said: "They take great pride in carrying out their various responsibilities, such as tending to the school's alpacas, bees and many reptiles."

Inspectors said that parents and carers 'feel privileged that their community is served by this exceptional school.'

"Pupils' exemplary attitudes mean that everyone can learn without disruption."

Headteacher Matthew Jessop was overjoyed at the school's recognition.

He said: "Absolutely delighted that the school has been once again recognised to be Outstanding.

"It is testament to the hard work of the brilliant staff, fantastic governors, lovely, supportive parents and our awesome local community.

"It is especially pleasing to be described as an 'exceptional' school as well as an 'Outstanding' one.

"Most importantly, the report is further recognition of the superb children we have here - which was noted more than once by the Ofsted inspectors.

"As Ofsted reports go, our last two, other awards we have won recently, and how happy all stakeholders are all add up to an extremely comprehensive validation of how well we are doing!"
