A KENDAL based artist is set to host his first solo gallery.

Dave Hill's new exhibition is inspired by Mexico, Spain and Kendal and it is set to start on April 5 at 98 Highgate in Kendal until June 5.

At 16 he went to Lancaster Art College to study Art and Design.

He travelled through France and Spain picking fruit in different areas, which has had a big influence on his life.

While on a walking holiday in Andalucia in 1995 he met his future wife, the Belgium artist Thuline De Cock - the two of them would make Kendal their home.

Thuline first opened her gallery in Kendal, later on in Windermere, where Dave also exhibits his work.

Thuline De Cock said: "Spain and Mexico have always been a big influence in his art. Dave went several times to Mexico and plenty of times to Spain. He loves the colours, the shapes, the history and the traditions.

"This new artwork is inspired by strong images and bright colours. He uses  both lino print and painting techniques. The exhibition tells the story of a journey that started in El Chorro, Andalucia."
