A MAN from Burton-in-Kendal found a rare pink-coloured grasshopper in his back garden.
Pink grasshoppers have a genetic mutation, according to the Wildlife Trusts. This mutation is called erythrism. Part of the reason why these insects are a rare find is that their pink colour makes them much easier to spot by prey.
Nick Stringfellow said: "Yesterday (June 25) morning I was gardening, I was mowing the lawn. I looked down to make sure it was a grasshopper. I googled it, it came up the fact it was quire rare.
"It was still there an hour later, it might still be there now. My garden is quite mushy with weeds and stuff. It didn't mind the attention, it didn't move away when we were near it."
