AN APPLICATION has been submitted to repair damage to a bridge dating to the eighteenth century.

Westmorland and Furness Council submitted an application to repair the Grade-II listed Wreaks Causeway Bridge, which carries vehicles travelling between Foxfield and Grizebeck on the A595, to the planning office.

The design and access statement says: "The work is required to maintain the structure so that it remains in place both as a historical structure and as part of the county highways network.

"The work is not intended to alter the physical characteristics of the bridge, but only to return it to and maintain it in good condition."

The official listing in Historic England states that the plan for the bridge was dated 1777.

It said that the damage is in the location of previous repairs where modern stone was used. Masonry that has remained in place will not be disturbed.
