The Westmorland Agricultural Society has announced a new CEO after the previous one stood down.

Angela Cornthwaite has taken over the role and will start on November 1, filling the gap that was left by the departure of Christine Knipe FRAgS in March.

Mrs Cornthwaite has a strong agricultural background, living with her husband and family on a beef and sheep farm in Winster Valley.

She said: “I am honoured and excited to have been given the opportunity to work with such a passionate and enthusiastic group of people, the majority of whom are volunteers and care deeply about our local Agricultural heritage.

"I am looking forward to helping the annual two-day Westmorland Show grow and prosper whilst continuing to cement and develop the links we have with local schools and training providers to support the society’s educational and training aims."

Society chairman Lisa Bennett said: “Angela impressed us with her understanding of the Society’s ethos, aims and objectives and I have every confidence she has the skills, experience and drive to deliver and develop our charitable aims."
