Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman might be from Down Under but he clearly loves it Up North - as he's now been spotted having a pint in a Lake District boozer.

The X-men actor, who's spent the last week travelling around the Yorkshire Dales, left bar staff "gobsmacked" after he popped in for a pint and some pub grub.

Aussie Jackman, 54, tucked into a kebab and washed it down with a pint of Guinness at the Watermill Inn and Brewery, in Ings.

Barman Clyde Mason said he'd 'second-guessed' himself when the actor first stepped through the door.

And the megastar even jokingly told him to make a 'quick bet' with the rest of his kitchen staff after they refused to believe he was in their pub.

Clyde said: "When Hugh first walked in, I had to second guess myself. I didn't think it would be him in our pub.

"I went into the kitchen and said, 'I think Hugh Jackman is at the bar.' "Nobody believed me. He came back to order food and drinks and when he took his sunglasses off, I knew it was him.

"I opened up further conversation by telling him I was going to bet the kitchen staff Hugh Jackman was in the pub.

"He said, 'Did you make the bet?' I said 'no!' and laughed. He said, 'Quick go make the bet' and laughed."

The sighting of the actor, who is holidaying in Northern England rather than the med this summer, comes as the SAG-AFTRA strike halted film production in Hollywood.

Clyde said the superstar had been a really pleasant customer and later agreed to take a photo with staff at the pub.

He added: "He took time to say hi to everybody and shook hands with them all and signed autographs.

"He said 'Nice to meet everyone' and went back to enjoy his chicken kebab with his family.

"[He is a] very nice, genuine and friendly guy, and you could tell it wasn't a problem for him at all."
