Kirkbie Kendal School sixth form student, Ronan Bennett-Stebbings, has been awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship.

The scholarship aims to encourage young, aspiring engineers from all backgrounds to fulfil their aspirations in the industry.

It gifts awardees financial aid, personal mentoring, hands-on industry experience, and invites to exclusive events during their A-Level studies.

A challenging application process includes completing an online application, an aptitude exam and a virtual interview.

Ronan said: “The application process has been a challenging but rewarding introduction to the real world of engineering, and has fuelled my wish to work in the engineering industry.

"I’m so excited for the opportunities that the scholarship brings, and I can’t wait to meet my sponsors, the RAF, and launch my own engineering career.

"Being sponsored by the RAF is extremely exciting given the invaluable role they play in protecting Britain in both aerospace and cyberspace.

"For my own career, I would love to pursue my interests in computing and electronics, and invent and innovate new ideas, to help make the world a better place."

Louise Baron, Head of the Technology Department, described Ronan's achievement as 'career launching'.

She said: "This is a fantastic accomplishment that could serve as his career’s launching pad. Ronan is a very talented, hardworking young man and this is very much deserved”.

Head Teacher, Mark Harris, said: “A phenomenal achievement, and very well deserved. I look forward to seeing Ronan’s progress through his sixth form studies in Computer Science, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, and on to further education with as much drive, ambition and success as he’s shown with his Arkwright Scholarship.”
