GLL, a leisure centre provider, has collaborated with the British Red Cross to open a new mobility aids service in Kendal Leisure Centre.

The service, which commenced in mid-September, provides people from Kendal and surrounding areas, including Lake District visitors, with accessible, short-term mobility aids.

Jolene Swann, GLL's general manager at Kendal Leisure Centre, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the British Red Cross mobility aids service and helping to improve the local community’s access to this vital equipment.

“As a charitable social enterprise, we are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Kendal’s residents, so providing a base for the service made total sense.”

Speaking about the partnership with GLL, Head of Operations for the British Red Cross mobility aids service, Geoff Cheshire, said: “This is a great fit for us. Improving communities' physical, mental and social well-being is the GLL's purpose. And we share this in the British Red Cross mobility aids service.

“We work hard to help people stay active and independent during times of personal crisis. Through this collaboration, we are bringing our service closer to the people who need it.”

People should book the service in advance, either online at redcross.org.uk/wheelchair or by phone at 0300 456 1914.
