A pianist from Lancaster who has ADHD will be showcasing his talents in a special performance in Kendal.

Dominic Downs will be playing at the Kendal Parish Church on May 11, hoping to promote how his learning difficulties have not held him back in accomplishing his dreams.

Adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder typically struggle to concentrate, follow instructions and cope with stress.

Dominic said: "As a young concert pianist and composer, I have had to overcome many challenges to achieve my goals.

"My hashtag is ADHD pianist, as this is one of the greatest challenges for me."

He went on to explain how, due to the nature of the performance, he is often more susceptible to the condition whilst on stage.

"ADHD affects concentration, and as the tablets affect my musicality, I perform without taking my medication," he said.

Recently, Dominic has been met with success and notoriety thanks to his growing presence on social media.

He added: "In a recent appearance on BBC One, I was proud to be described as 'an exceptional talent with a bright future ahead of me', but I know that future will only be achieved by hard work and getting new audiences to hear me perform, which is why I am coming to Kendal.

"I have won prizes for these performances, with the last success coming at the start of February."

Dominic was educated at the renowned Chetham’s School of Music and is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music under Dr Murray McLachlan.

His performances are varied, with the ability to put on five different 80-minute programmes thanks to his repertoire of piano concertos and classic recitals.

The concert in Kendal, starting at 7:30pm, will include pieces from Haydn, Greig, Chaminade, Chopin, Schubert, Schumann and Downs.

Tickets are £12 for adults, whilst they are £5 for students and children.

You can book your seats for the show here or pay on the door on the evening of the performance, with more details about Dominic available on his website.
