Tickets are on sale for the 2024 Ulverston International Music Festival.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the event will run from May 31 to June 9.

The festival, originally initiated in 2004 by Ulverston-born pianist Anthony Hewitt with four performances at the Coronation Hall, has since gained popularity, staging world-class shows in Cumbria.

The 2024 edition will showcase 24 concerts in 12 locations across 10 days.

To mark the 20th year, the festival's planners have curated an extensive programme breaking barriers between classical music and more popular genres.

Concerts will take place beyond Ulverston, at heritage sites across the Furness and Cartmel Peninsulas, reaching out to Levens Hall, Cartmel, Grange-over-Sands and Coniston.

Instrumentalists from Europe will grace the event, forming a rich portrayal of chamber music repertoire.

On May 31, violinist Jennifer Pike will open the festival with a recital.

She gained recognition as the youngest ever winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year at age twelve.

Her performance, accompanied by Martin Roscoe, will include a tribute to Ukraine, composed by her father.

Later in the week, Mr Hewitt will revisit Levens Hall and headline alongside the Royal Northern Sinfonia with Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 17 in G Major.

The festival will cater to a variety of tastes, with performance highlights including Fauré's Requiem at Cartmel Priory with the Ulverston Festival Chorus and performances by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain.

Jazz enthusiasts can enjoy the set by Paris-based pianist and his band - Dave Bristow Quintet.

The event will also see the return of the rarely performed masterpiece 'The Sorcerer' by Musical Theatre & Charles Court Opera at Victoria Hall in Grange.

The festival will conclude with a tango treat on June 9, with dancers Letitia Wilkinson and Andes Sosa performing alongside a special afternoon tea session.

An adventurous 'Tone Trail' will guide attendees through the gardens of Brantwood, Coniston, and even a performance inside the Sir John Barrow Monument atop the Hoad.

'Foodie' events, combining food and music, are also in store.

The festival prioritises music education, featuring a Schools’ Concert Prokofiev’s ‘Peter & the Wolf’ at the Roxy Cinema and an under-5s session 'Tunes 4 Tots' at Ulverston Parish Church.

In the words of artistic director Anthony Hewitt: "This year will be a festival of music in the truest sense, back-to-back concerts over a ten-day period, an aural banquets to celebrate our 20th anniversary.

"Whatever your musical tastes, a mouth-watering array of music, food, splendid locations, spectacular scenery and warm friendship await."
