A misconduct hearing will be held to determine whether a Cumbria police officer breached conduct regulations.

PC Christopher Mather 2879 faces several allegations and will attend a public hearing later this month.

The first allegation is that he breached Schedule 2 of the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020 when he failed to update a victim of harassment and theft and failed to investigate further ongoing harassment reported by her.

The second allegation is that he failed to update said victim with the outcome of an interview with the suspect, despite agreeing to do so.

The third allegation is that he failed to inform the victim that the case had been finalised as ‘no further action’ for several months, denying her the opportunity to request a review or challenge the decision.

The fourth allegation is that, on various dates between February 18 and March 4, 2023, he knowingly inputted false updates to victim care plans on police intelligence system Red Sima indicating that a victim of crime had been updated about their cases when they had not.

The fifth allegation is that, on various dates between February 13 and 18, 2023, he knowingly inputted false updated which indicated a victim personal statement was recorded from a victim when it wasn’t.

It is further alleged that this conduct, if proven, amounts to ‘gross misconduct’ and is so serious as to justify dismissal.

The hearing takes place at Cumbria Police HQ in Penrith at 1pm on April 11, 2024.
