A CUMBRIAN tourism business has completed the set, being honoured with a King's award for business just four years after gaining the same honour from the late Queen.

The Quiet Site at Ullswater has been honoured with a King’s Award for Enterprise for Sustainable Development.

The Quiet Site is one of only 252 organisations nationally to be recognised with a prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise. Announced today, May 6 The Quiet Site has been recognised for its excellence in Sustainable Development.

Employing 22 people, The Quiet Site was founded in 1963 and offers Glamping and pitches for Tourers and Tents.

Facilities include an olde worlde bar that dates from 1680, a state of the art wood fired pizza oven and a modern Zero-Waste shop.

Daniel Holder said: "Everyone here at The Quiet Site is absolutely delighted to have been awarded a Kings Award for Sustainable Development. Since winning a Queens Award in 2020 we have been working really hard to develop in a sustainable way.

"We generate 70% of our own energy renewably and have removed gas completely from our operation. We have helped our local community, stake holders and other local businesses to set up a new local bus network to ease congestion and reduce carbon in our beautiful valley.

"It has been a whirlwind 12 months having already won both the AA Overall Campsite of the Year and Visit England’s Holiday Park of the Year."

The King’s Awards for Enterprise, previously known as The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise, were renamed last year to reflect His Majesty The King’s desire to continue the legacy of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s by recognising outstanding UK businesses.

The Award programme, now in its 58th year, is the most prestigious business award in the country, with successful businesses able to use the esteemed King’s Awards Emblem for the next five years.

They join Cockermouth based firm Createc Ltd as the only two Cumbrian businesses to receive the prestigious honour in 2024.

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cumbria, Mr. Alexander Scott said: “I am delighted that two of Cumbria’s outstanding companies, Createc Ltd and The Quiet Site, have won the King’s Award for Enterprise 2024. This is an exceptional achievement and I congratulate everyone connected with them.

"These awards highlight excellence in Cumbrian companies and demonstrate that we have world-class companies in our county. Many more deserve and would benefit from the recognition that a King’s Award would bring. I do hope that those companies who are eligible will take up the challenge to apply. There is evidence from previous winners that the international standing of the award brings tangible benefits to their business.”
