ALMOST 100 jobseekers attended a careers fair organised by The Westmorland Gazette.

The event, which was run in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and took place at the Riverside Hotel in Kendal, featured representatives from a variety of companies including major High Street bakery Greggs Westmorland Gazette fair co-ordinator Julie Patten said it was a 'useful exercise' for those who attended looking to gain advice on their next step on the career ladder.

"There were ten business and educational exhibitors including care, hospitality and retail employers and they were kept busy with a steady flow of visitors through the day. One or two conducted interviews on the spot," she said.

"Jobseekers travelled to attend from as far away as Blackpool and Penrith and although the majority found the fair useful, others were disappointed by the lack of business exhibitors. One plus point that emerged was the interest shown in the care sector. It seems that jobseekers are now looking more seriously at social care as an employment option."
