COMMUNITY spirit shone through on a South Lakeland estate when residents joined forces for a clean-up operation.

Volunteers gathered on the Honeypot estate in Ulverston for an activity day which saw 300 daffodil bulbs planted and dozens of bin bags filled with litter and unwanted items.

Wendy Kolbe, acting secretary of the Ulverston East Task Group which led the project, said: “It went very well but this is just a starting point and by next year the area will look really good.”

Dawn Wright, a town councillor and member of the task group, said: “There was a really good turnout. Quite a lot of rubbish was gathered from households and the streets. It is a good thing to have a good spring clean like this every now and then.”
