THREE South Lakeland firefighters have been honoured in Cumbria’s annual fire service awards.

Officers based in the county’s Kendal section walked away with a quarter of the honours at a ceremony held in the town on Friday.

Dozens of nominations were received for the 12 Together Towards Success Award categories.

Kendal manager Adrian Buckle, who lives at Grange, took the top honour for “outstanding leadership” and “unparalleled” service to the community.

Duncan Taylor, from Kendal, carried off the Green Award for helping to set up the Cumbria Wildland Fire Group to combat countryside fires.

And Gary Wilson, from Kendal, won the award for the most Effective/Imaginative Partnership for his work with the Patient Transfer Service.

Cumbria’s Chief Fire Office Dominic Harrison said: “I’m proud of everyone in our service and I hope these awards inspire more people in the coming 12 months.”

The award ceremony, which was held at Kendal’s Castle Green Hotel, was sponsored by Nuclear Management Partners, the company which manages the Sellafield nuclear sites.
