THE North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust has appointed a new chief executive.

Darren Hurrell replaces John Burnside, who retired from the role at the end of May.

A former chief executive of Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust, based in Bebington on the Wirral, Mr Hurrell has held a number of director posts in the Northern and Yorkshire region.

NWAS Chairman, Mary Whyham, said: “Darren brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership skills and he will be a real asset to the ambulance service and the executive management team."

Mr Hurrell said he was "absolutely delighted" with the appointment.
