A LOCAL hospice is calling for men in the region to lace up their running shoes and join in the fun of a sponsored event.

St Mary’s Hospice, which is based in Ulverston and Barrow, is holding its first 5k run for men only on August 15 - and organisers hope 500 men will take part.

Hannah Hillen, of the hospice, said: “Fancy dress is optional but there will be a prize for the best dressed and if Superman, Spiderman, and a host of other colourful characters want to take time out from saving the world to run in aid of St Mary's, we will be happy to accommodate them!”

For more information on the run, which takes place at Hawcoat Park Sports Club in Barrow, visit www.stmaryshospice.org/hospiceheroes, email events@stmaryshospice.org.uk or call Zoe or Natalie on 01229 580305.
