A CHALLENGING run which is celebrated for its scenery drew in crowds of more than 2,000 people to enjoy the spectacle.

The six mile, 2,400 ft elevation Coniston Country Fair fell race is seen as a classic, taking in Coniston Hall, the shores of Coniston Lake, and Coniston Old Man.

Alistair Dunn, of Helm Hill, won for the third time in a time of 53mins 25secs, with Ben Abdelnoor, of Ambleside a close second in 53.43, and Mark Addison, also of Helm Hill, third in 55.46.

First lady home, in 15th place overall, was Lisa Lacon, of Holmfirth, a previous winner of the lady’s race in a time of 66.23, with the second lady Kendra White, of Esk Valley, and the third lady was S. Pike.

Local MP Tim Farron who finished in a respectable time of 89.15 beating his previous record and still having enough energy left to present the prizes.

Elsewhere during the fair there was the Herdwick sheep show, Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling, craft marquee, children’s sports, stalls and much more.
