A GROUP set up to tackle wildfires in Cumbria’s countryside is looking for new members and stepping up its training.
Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service joined forces with Cumbria County Council, the Lake District National Park Authority and the Forestry Commission to form the Cumbria Wildfire Group last year.
During the summer - the peak time for wildfires - it is highlighting the training and advice it offers and urging new members to get involved.
Ethan Bigelow, the group’s project officer, described the work as ‘vital’. He said: “Through educating and informing our members we are reducing the risk of blazes breaking out and teaching people about tackling them as quickly and effectively as possible if they do occur.”
