LOOKING for a value bet at Cartmel today (Saturday) will pose racegoers be a real Bank Holiday puzzler as there are several strong favourites on the card as well as the presence of top jockey A. P. McCoy.

The likes of Dunaskin, Invisible Man, Woody Valentine and Kalatime will all start a a short price, not my idea of happy punting but, hey, if you want a winner perhaps you should follow the crowd.

Never my sort of day out, here's a few off-the-cuff hunches that might helpfind some decent priced chances.

GRAND DIAMOND'S third to Red Maloney at Musselburgh reads like good form considering the winner was thought of as a frontline Cheltenham contender. Jim Goldie's charge run in the 4.25.

BENBANE HEAD was rated good enough to run in the Cheltenham Festival Bumper race - albeit at 100-1 - and he did not finish last. He has to make the frame here if he is to justify that hype and is rated each-way value in the opening 2.10.

SHANBALLA has won three hurdle races in Ireland. After winning at Killarney he was bought for Welsh trainer Tim Vaughan's stable and goes straight over fences. This is a moderate affair and the 7lb claimer can make a difference as he tries to beat hot favourite Invisible Man. in the 2.40 chase.

BANIAN looks the best ride for A. P. McCoy in the last race ofn the card. Place in Irish handicpa hurdles, he needs to improve but a trip over mean that he will surely be tuned up for the 5pm race.

Good punting and I hope the sun gets out for you.
