CONSERVATIVE councillors on Cumbria County Council have voted not to take a one per cent increase due in their allowances.
Jim Buchanan, the authority’s Tory leader, said: “While recognising this is only a small saving for the council, it is clear this is a move that will need to be replicated elsewhere as we try to achieve a balanced budget without effecting key services.
“This decision does not effect the other political groups on the council, but they may wish to consider whether they also wish to join in this measure.”
