SHADOW Foreign Secretary William Hague has visited South Lakeland to discover how much the district needs more well-paid jobs.

Mr Hague was met at The Life Science Centre, in Lindale, by prospective Conservative parliamentary candidate Gareth McKeever.

“William Hague visited The Life Science Centre to highlight the desperate need for well-paid jobs in South Lakeland,” said Mr McKeever. “The low average wage paid locally means that many of our young people cannot afford to live here.

“A large part of the solution to this is that we try to re-build our manufacturing base, and the work done by the Centre to encourage more science-related vocations amongst local school children is an important part of that.”
