MOUNTAIN rescuers were called out to Stickle Ghyll, Great Langdale, when a group of walkers found themselves running out of daylight.

Four members of Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) went to assist the group shortly before 5pm on Monday, October 26, after one member had a minor fall and the walkers did not have torches.

Nick Owen, LAMRT team leader, said: “The walker was shaken by the fall but not injured. The problem was the group wasn’t organised and didn’t seem prepared to accept any responsibility themselves.”

LAMRT then received reports of a woman and an 11-year-old boy who were overdue from a walk on Crinkle Crags, Great Langdale, shortly after 6pm.

“They were well equipped and sorted themselves out,” said Mr Owen. “They had made a navigational error and came down in the wrong place but were located en-route back to Ambleside.”
