South Lakes fashion designer to go ahead with football show

A FASHION designer who has been given the red card by some of the country’s top football clubs is defying her ban and going ahead with a radical show.

Avant-garde designer Angy Morton, of Newby Bridge, near Ulverston, was due to premiere her new Stolen Dream collection yesterday featuring several evening dresses made from soccer strips.

While she has been given the go-ahead by Sunderland, Hull City, Leeds United, and her beloved Newcastle United, to use their kits, she has been given a flat no from the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Wigan. Other clubs have yet to respond.

Mrs Morton, who runs Romantique Couture, said she was disappointed with the response of some clubs, but would not let it stop her and intends to go ahead with the launch.

“It’s something very new,” she said. “The idea is to raise awareness of recycling and what you can do with your old football shirts, because they cost so much.

"I also want to highlight the lack of football wear for women.”

She added: “Stolen Dreams is a unique fusion of fashion and football which has been inspired by the ups and downs of top flight football.

“It is an artistic collection. All of my outfits are unique, one-off designs created to raise my profile as a new designer and awareness of my rather unusual creativity. They are not intended for sale.”

The collection will be unveiled at a catwalk event at Newcastle’s Eldon Gardens.

The Westmorland Gazette contacted Liverpool and Chelsea football clubs for a comment but they had not replied by the time the newspaper went to press.
